2023 Honorary Parade Marshall: Frank Kinzinger
It is our privilege to recognize the impact and influence of Mr. Frank Kinzinger as this year's Honourary Parade Marshall for Fenelon Falls Santa Day.
Nearly 25 years ago, long term resident and community promoter in Fenelon Falls, Frank and his good friends imagined a nighttime Santa Parade as a differentiator for Fenelon's seasonal activities. At the time, Fenelon was one of the first communities in Ontario to offer a lighted night-time parade - and that was just the tip of the iceberg! After the significant success of the first parade, expanding the concept came quickly on its heels. More lights were needed! To this end, Frank and his close friend Bob Pennock would extend the festivities beyond a one day parade.
The team grew as did their ambitions. Horse drawn carriage rides soon followed and the concept of Santa Day grew roots. Why not a petting zoo? Face painting? Gingerbread Cookies? Frank carried on in leading this group for the ensuing 15 years, growing Santa Day into a whole-community extravaganza of activities free for children young and old including a spectacular fireworks display to cap off the day's festivities.
Frank moved from the area around 2014 and now resides in Midland. This legacy started by Frank and friends continues and is the amazing Santa Day we celebrate each year. This has grown from a concept to a spectacle; and our community pride grew right alongside. Without his strong leadership, big vision and dogged pursuit of funding, none of this would have been possible. Thank You Frank!
Even today, if Frank meets up with someone from Fenelon Falls, he asks about Santa Day!
Frank is unable to attend our Santa Day Festivities this year. We be honouring him with the lead car in the parade.
